Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Is StringTheory a replacement for java.lang.String?

A. No! StringTheory is a text engine that you drop into your code. Most of the time, StringTheory works with java.lang.String. Generally speaking, if the text job is big, complicated, or needs speed use StringTheory.

Q. Can I speed up my program by replacing all instances of java.lang.String with StringTheory?

A. We doubt it. First off, if you replace all instances of java.lang.String in your program with StringTheory, you will probably not improve overall performance. That's not how StringTheory should be used. Second, if you did replace all Strings with StringTheory, you'd have some typing to do. StringTheory does not match the java.lang.String interface (since it is not a String substitute), so you would need to modify your existing code to suit.
Q. How does a developer license work?

A. Our licensing system is very simple. You purchase one license for each person on your team that will use StringTheory. This means that you don't have to buy a license for everyone on your team if they aren't all using StringTheory.

Q. I get an error from my Java compiler saying "package Built.Text.StringTheory does not exist". What gives?

A. More than likely your CLASSPATH isn't properly updated to reflect the location of your StringTheory jar file. Also, some development tools and IDEs insist that you add the StringTheory jar file to your project in order to compile. Check those settings and see.
